What will I Study?

AS and A Level Computer Science is the next step up from GCSE Computer Science. In GCSE, you learnt the basics of programming and how computers operate. In the A Level course you will build on this practical computer programming skill. You will also go into more depth on topics including:

  • Operating Systems
  • Programming Languages
  • Data Structures
  • Problem Solving
  • Databases
  • “Big Data”
  • Fundamentals of how computers operate

The course has a very strong focus on problem solving, as it is the fundamental skill you need to possess to be successful in this the computing industry. Anyone can learn to type code, but can you think up that code in the first place? Are you good at solving puzzles and figuring out solutions to problems?
