Frequently asked questions

Q. What date do students start in September?
A. The first day of term for year 7 is Wednesday 4 September 2019. There will only be Year 7 students and Post 16 students on site during this day. During this day Year 7 students will be completing an orienteering exercise to familiarise themselves with the layout of the campus so they know where to go for their lessons. Staff will be available to support students during their first few weeks to ensure they know their way to lessons.

Q. What are the lunch time arrangements for year 7?
A. Year 7 is the only year group on lunch between 12.30pm and 1.00pm. This ensures minimal queuing time and allows them to eat and make new friends in their first year at the academy.

Q. How do you pay for lunch?
A. The academy operates a pay online system, where an account will be set up for each student. Parents can then use the online account to add money or students may use the biometric (fingerprint) system to add money using the payment machines in the academy. They will be shown how to do this during their first day. Students on free school meals will have their money automatically added to their account for use at lunch time. Log on details will be provided to parents in due course. All students are welcome to bring a packed lunch on days they choose.

Q. How is the uniform provided?
A. A full uniform will be provided, free of charge, for all year 7 students. Trutex (our uniform supplier) will attend each primary school to measure the year 6 students during their Induction day. They will then deliver the uniform packs to the academy for collection. Uniform can be collected on Monday 12th August 2019 between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm when you will also have the opportunity to purchase any extra uniform. If you are unable to make that date you can call in to collect your child’s uniform on Tuesday 2nd September during the Staff INSET day. Please note that any exchanges must be done direct with Trutex.

Q. What are the rules for hair/ makeup/ jewellery?
A. Make up worn by older students should be very discreet. Students will be asked to remove make up if it is not discreet. Hair colours should be natural. Students will not be allowed in to lessons with unnatural hair colour. Hair accessories should be discreet. No scarves or bandanna’s (unless for religious or medical reasons). No Jewellery is allowed except for a watch and medic alert bracelet or necklace. No body piercings including ear, nose and belly button etc, will be allowed. (Please arrange for any piercings to be done at the beginning of the summer break so they may then be removed in September.) No nail polish or false nails are allowed.

Q. What equipment will my child need?
A. Listed below are the items your child will be expected to bring into the academy every day.
 Pen
 Pencil
 Ruler
 Planner (this is provided by Outwood Academy Hemsworth on their 1st day in September)
 Bag big enough to carry all essential equipment in
